Environmental Wetland Permitting and Mitigation
County: Miami-Dade
Project Description
Smart-Sciences, Incorporated was contracted to prepare permit applications for a residential development. The project included conducting a wetland assessment for this 18-acre agricultural site, located in the vicinity of SW 88th Street at SW 172nd Avenue. The property owner had been contacted by Miami-Dade County regarding on-site wetland impacts that had occurred without a permit. Smart-Sciences conducted the wetland assessment to evaluate the acreage and value of wetlands that had been impacted and the wetlands that remained on the property. The site contained approximately 4.0 acres of wetlands, with 2.0 acres that had been impacted by agricultural activities. We prepared the Miami-Dade County Class IV Wetlands application for development of the site, including a WATER assessment of the impacted wetland area for purchase of mitigation credits at FPL Everglades Mitigation Bank. Smart-Sciences is preparing the wetland enhancement and restoration plans for the existing two acre wetland area to be preserved, monitored and maintained. Smart-Sciences is working with the design engineer to prepare the Joint South Florida Water Management and U.S Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Resources Permit applications.
