FDOT District 4 Broward Mobility

Tree Survey, Burrowing Owl Surveys, Wetland Delineation and Contamination Review

County: Broward

Project Description

Smart-Sciences is working with project engineers to provide environmental services as required for the Florida Department Of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 Broward MPO Mobility Project located in Broward County Florida.  The Broward Mobility project consists of the design and construction of sidewalks and/or bike facilities along forty-eight roadway segments. Smart-Sciences is conducting pre-construction site visits along project segments to identify if wetland areas, burrowing owl nests, trees or potential contamination issues are within the construction segments and providing recommendations for addressing each environmental concern.

The on-site assessment includes providing specific items, such as clearly delineating areas which cannot be used for construction and/or will impact existing trees or burrowing owls.  The majority of the segments have trees within the project corridors and Smart-Sciences is working with the design engineers to avoid the trees where possible by moving the sidewalks around the trees.  If the trees cannot be avoided, Smart-Sciences is GPS locating each tree and preparing the tree removal permit applications which requires identification of each tree, diameter, canopy spread and condition.  Additionally, Smart-Sciences is providing assistance with wetland permitting, burrowing owl nest removal and contamination file reviews as necessary.
